Benjamin Chester Bixby, 59, of Jefferson, died May 17 at Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 8, 1949 in Auburn, and grew up in Augusta and Matinicus.
He served in the Marines from 1968 to 1970, including a tour in Vietnam. He lived for almost 30 years in Thomaston and had spent the last five years in Jefferson near Damariscotta Lake, so he could enjoy his favorite pastime, fishing.
He was predeceased by his father, Benjamin James Bixby.
He is survived by two sons, David Bixby and wife Connie of Belfast and Rob Bixby and wife Emily of Washington; nine grandchildren, Corey, Chase, Chandler, Caitlyn, Caleb, Michael, Logan, Michaela and R.J.; a great-grandson, Corey, Jr.; mother, Virginia; 10 brothers and sisters, Pete, T.J., Toby, Matt, Colby, Terry, Paula, Jane, Stana and Mike; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial gathering was held June 1 at his home.
