Bernice E. “Bunny” Caswell, 92, of Edgecomb, died peacefully on Nov. 24 at her home surrounded by her family and friends who loved her very much, following a long illness.
Bernice “Bunny” was born in Durham on April 5, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Brennan.
She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1938. After graduation, Bunny went to work for the telephone company as an operator. She worked at this job for many years. In 1952 she married Rufus Caswell of Edgecomb. They built their own home where they continued to live for the next 60 years. Bunny worked for the Wiscasset school system as the middle school secretary for many years.
She was a member of the Edgecomb Congregational Church and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and sewing. She was an active member of the Lincoln County Extension for many years. She loved to spend time with her family, and always looked forward to family dinners where grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered. Bunny enjoyed reading Martha Stewart cookbooks and magazines and actually met her one summer at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. They sat together on a garden bench and had a lovely chat.
She also loved the Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell. She was a member of his fan club, went to one of his concerts, enjoyed watching his concert movies and listening to all of his music.
Besides her husband Rufus, Bunny is survived by daughter, Gail and husband Tom; granddaughters, Abigail and husband Steven, and Jennifer and husband David; and great-grandchildren, Henry and Bella.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation 6-8 p.m., Tues., Nov. 27 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Service to celebrate Bunny’s life 1 p.m., Wed., Nov. 28 at the Edgecomb Congregational Church, UCC, 15 Cross Point Rd., Edgecomb. Rev. Kate Pinkham will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chase Cemetery in Edgecomb.
