Bertha Mae Simmons, 88, of Friendship, passed away March 2 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a long illness. Bertha was born Aug. 12, 1919, in Bath to Lester and Helen Preble Wellman.
Bertha was married to Amos Albert Simmons in Friendship. She was a housewife and homemaker, who loved spending time with her three sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed countless hours of fishing with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting, needlework, and was an avid collector of cactus plants, knickknacks and cats.
Bertha was pre-deceased by Amos Albert Simmons, her husband.
She is survived by sons Albert A. Simmons of Friendship, Roger A. Simmons of Warren, and Richard E. Simmons of Friendship; granddaughters Elizabeth A. Overlock of Friendship, Amy L. Simmons of Augusta, Suzette Rumney of Belfast, and Juanita Simmons of Friendship; grandsons Roger Simmons of Rockland, and Harlan Simmons of Friendship; great-grandchildren Shylo Wall of Friendship, Sheldon Simmons of Rockland, Shane Rumney of Belfast, Justin Overlock of Friendship, Jeremy Overlock of Friendship, Laura Simmons of Augusta and Kaitlin Simmons of Augusta.
Graveside burial service, 1 p.m., Sat., May 17 at the Harbor View Cemetery, Harbor Rd., Friendship.
