Bertha Wright Paquett, of Edgecomb, passed away on Dec. 9 after a brief stay at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. She was born in Woolwich to Jothan and Odessa Wright on May 5, 1917.
In 1939 she married Arthur L. Paquett (deceased) of Edgecomb. They made their home in Edgecomb where they owned and operated the Summit Poultry Farm until 1966. For 30 years she also worked at Race’s Motor Court, retiring in 1986. As a lifetime member, she was always very active in the Huntoon Hill Grange where she served as Master and Overseer for many years. She was always one to volunteer for many organizations; in particular, baking for the Grange and Church dinners, benefits and helping others in any way possible.
Christmas was a very special time for Bertha. She would spend months before the holiday knitting and crocheting many items for her family and for charity. She was locally known for her candy making as well as the many crafts she enjoyed making and sharing. Bertha was a member of the Damariscotta Methodist Church in Damariscotta.
She is survived by her children, June and husband Elbridge Giles of Boothbay Harbor, and Arthur and wife Patricia Paquett of Austin, Tex.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Giles-Brown of Boothbay Harbor, Jennifer Giles Dionne of Portland, and Lily Paquett Oberg of Austin, Tex.; as well as great-grandchildren, Chase Brown, Owen Dionne and Hannah Dionne.
Service and celebration of Bertha’s life 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 30, 2010 at the Damariscotta Methodist Church on Church St. in Damariscotta. Interment will be later in the year at the Highland Cemetery in Edgecomb.
Bertha will be remembered always for her support, devotion to her family and generous creative spirit.
