Brenda L. Marr, 68, of Warren, passed away on the evening of March 25 at Winward Gardens in Camden. Born on June 5, 1946 in Bristol, she was the daughter of Frank and Yolanda (Poland) Elwell.
Brenda grew up, and attended schools on Louds Island until high school, when she moved to Rockland where she attended school for two years. She moved again, and completed her final two years at Lincoln Academy from where she graduated.
Upon graduation, she worked at Jordan’s Market for several years, then went to Crowe Rope for many years until they closed. Most recently, she retired from Walmart in Rockland after 12 years of loyal service.
She loved going back to Louds Island where she spent her childhood, visiting lighthouses throughout the state, going to lawn sales, and when she was younger, she loved going to dances. She also enjoyed country music, especially George Strait, and chatting with friends and family on Facebook; but more than anything, she loved spending time with family and friends. She had a great sense of humor, and touched the lives of many; including many “adopted” people who called her mom.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Donna Gower; and grandparents, Annie and Levi Elwell, and Viola and Alpheus Poland.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Marr Jr. of Warren; brother, Frank Elwell Jr. and wife Linda of Waldoboro; brother, Robert Elwell and wife Phyllis of Damariscotta; sister, Yvonne Smith and significant other Ken Williams of Rockland; loving children, Tiffany Gifford and husband Christian of Warren, John Bailey II and wife Michele of Lincolnville, Lynette Robinson and husband William of Thomaston, Kristin Welton and husband John of North Carolina, Darren Elwell and significant other Cheryl Perry of Rockport, and Carmen Gerry and husband Scott of Florida; stepsons, Walter Marr III and wife Linda of Rockland, and Russell Marr and wife Lisa of Wiscasset; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., April 3 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A gathering at the Wells-Hussey American Legion Hall, 527 Main St., Damariscotta will follow the service until 4 p.m.
