Calvin “Roy” Bragg, 88, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully at his home Dec. 22.
He was born April 4, 1921, the son of Calvin and Ella Stevens Bragg. He grew up in Sabattus and moved to Waldoboro at the age of five and attended local schools. As a boy he worked at his father’s Junk Yard and Bragg’s Auto parts store.
He started the Esso Garage in the 1950s then moved into the Mobil station in 1956 retiring in 1983 to his home in Waldoboro.
He bowled at DePatsy’s lanes in a league. After retiring he enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of his most prized possessions was his garden. He loved to plants seeds and watch them grow. One thing he enjoyed was giving away his vegetables and was also known to give away a can or two of Pauline’s canned goods. He loved animals and was very excited when his dog Missy learned how to fetch his slippers and socks.
He was predeceased by his parents, Calvin and Ella; son, Albert Bragg; and brother, Roland Bragg.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Pauline Bragg of Waldoboro; sons, Russell Bragg and wife Deborah of Bangor, Robert Bragg of Texas; William Bragg and wife Andrea of Waldoboro, and Dana Bragg and companion Amy Noyes of Auburn; daughters, Claudia Alfredson of Derry, N.H., Arlene O’Dell and husband Richard of Bethel, Conn., and Geraldine Maney and husband Scott of Jefferson; brothers, Thomas Bragg and wife Beatrice of Augusta, and Norman Bragg; sister, Almeda Collins of Nevada; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Wed., Dec. 30 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Gathering for family and friends 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 31 at Orff’s Corner Community Church in Waldoboro. Private family graveside with Military Honors will be held in the spring.
