Carl Augustus DePalma, 62, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 9. He was born on Nov. 9, 1949 in Canton, Mass., the son of the late Guiseppe and Rose Cimildoro DePalma. He grew up in Canton and attended local schools and was a graduate of Canton High School class of 1968.
After high school he was drafted into the Armed Forces and served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After finishing his commitment, he returned home to Massachusetts where he began his college education at Worcester State College, majoring in Psychology. After graduating college he found a job at Fort Devons where he worked in one of the warehouses, after this he found employment with the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for seven years.
Carl met his wife Joan in 1974 and the couple was married in 1976. The couple settled in West Boylston, Mass. and welcomed their first child, a son, Danté in 1978. In 1985 the family moved to Jefferson. A year after moving to Maine Carl began work at Togus VA Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 2005.
He loved sports, football, basketball, baseball, any and all sports. When Danté was growing up, Carl would coach his teams in basketball. Sports brought them together and helped create a very strong bond with one another. He enjoyed candle pin bowling, and playing cards, especially cribbage. He loved to cook and travel, often times just packing up the truck and heading off to where he didn’t necessarily always know, but he would figure it out along the way.
He was predeceased by a brother, Antonio DePalma.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Joan DePalma of Jefferson; son, Danté DePalma, and wife Elizabeth of Washington; brothers, Bruno DePalma and wife Caroline of St. Augustine, Fla., and Joseph DePalma and wife Shirley of Canton, Mass.; grandson, Miki DePalma of Washington; brother-in-law, Kevin Emery of Holbrook, Mass.; special friends, James O’Malley of Clinton, Mass., and Gary Szymczuk of Milton, Mass.; friend and Pastor Bob Bellows; and special friend and neighbor, Wayne Keene.
