Carl Benson Erickson, Sr., 84, of Warren, died Oct. 24 from natural causes at Breezy Acres, the family farm where he was born Jan. 11, 1925. He was the son of Charles and Nancy Erickson.
Carl attended Warren schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1944, in which he served proudly. He married Mary Norwood in September, 1948. Carl became a prominent poultry businessman, operating as many as seven farms at one time. In the early 1950s, he founded and owned Warren Garage and sold and repaired used cars. He later founded Warren Motors and was a Studebaker dealer until 1956.
He was instrumental in removing unsightly junk cars from Warren through the Warren Community Betterment project. He served several terms as selectman and served in the State Legislature. He held membership with the St. George Lodge of Masons in Warren for 57 years and with the Kora Shrine.
He became a real estate broker in the late 1960s and was known for his creative ads, such as his memorable “Get a Lot While You’re Young” ad. In his retirement years, he was active in developing his own real estate properties and enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
He is predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Gertrude (Erickson) Hallberg, Evelyn (Erickson) Kenniston, and Charles Frederick Erickson.
He is survived by his children, Karen Salenius and partner George Belle of Warren, Mark Erickson of Puerto Rice, Carl B. Erickson, Jr. “Rick” and partner Susan Grondin of Nobleboro, and Dean Erickson and wife Lisa Erickson of Los Angeles, Cal.; grandchildren, Michelle Douglas of Litchfield, Shana Lohnes of Colorado Springs, Col., and Erica Salenius of Littleton, Col.; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held Nov. 1 at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro, and he was interred at the Blake Cemetery the next day.
