Carl E. Werden, 87, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Nov. 4 of complications from a stroke at Lake Wales Medical Center in Florida.
He was born Sept. 19, 1919 in Frankfort, N.Y. He came to the area in 1979 from Brookfield, Conn.
He was a retired counselor and director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program at Lakeland Manor Hospital in Florida. After his retirement, he was a self-employed cabinetmaker and furniture craftsman. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Mr. Werden was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
He was predeceased by four children, Carol Ann Werden, Rory J. Werden, James Werden, and Linda Corbett.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Werden of Lake Wales, Fla.; children, Kim Keenan, Albert V. Werden, Timothy Werden, Mark Werden, and Ricky Werden, all of Connecticut; step-children, James Corbett of Connecticut, Karen Valentine of Maine, John Corbett of Texas, Carol Kilgore of Florida, and Robert Corbett of Washington D.C.; sister, Evelyn Courtemanche of Connecticut; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services held Nov. 8 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales, Fla., with Pastor John Guzzetta officiating.
