Carlton C. Johnson, 65, of Pemaquid, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on the evening of June 19. Born in Rockland on May 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Alton and Audrey (Willis) Johnson.
Carlton grew up in Rockland, attending local schools and graduating from Rockland High School where he played baseball. Upon graduation he went to work, and was a true “jack-of-all-trades.” He worked at Rockland Leather for many years, worked as a painter and varnisher for both boats and homes, and upon moving to Bristol in 1995, went to work as a lobsterman. No matter what he was doing, he always took a great deal of pride in his work.
A lover of life, he enjoyed fishing in both fresh and saltwater, and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and both professional golf and wrestling. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Alton and James Johnson; mother-in-law, Sandy Stover; and nephew, Kenny Jellison Jr.
He is survived by wife, Debbie Johnson; daughter, Jackie Pomelow; siblings, Alton “Squashy” Johnson and wife Carolyn, Donna Masterson and husband Jim, Jeannie Fowles and husband Wayne, Linda Jellison and husband Kenny, and Rusty Johnson and significant other Jill; grandchildren, Joseph Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Jasmine Pomelow, and Maddie Griffin; good friend, Terry Lagasse; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Carlton’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., July 1 at his brothers (Squashy’s) home, 672 Atlantic Hwy., Warren.
