Carmella Ann Chadwick, 76, of Wiscasset, died unexpectedly July 19 at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick, surrounded by her family.
Born in Hartford, Conn., May 21, 1935, she was the daughter of Gerald and Maria Diamond.
She grew up in East Hartford, Conn. and attended the local schools. On Dec. 18, 1954, she married Alton Chadwick. The two shared 57 years of marriage. For many years they lived in Port Clyde, moving to Florida for a brief time before eventually returning to Maine.
Carmella loved knitting, reading, word search puzzles and taking care of her six children and grandchildren.
Carmella was predeceased by her son, Alton ‘Butchie’ Chadwick Jr., and sister, Virginia Carbone
She is survived by her husband Alton Chadwick Sr. of Wiscasset; sons, Stephen Chadwick of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jeffrey Chadwick and wife Cindy of Wiscasset and Timothy Chadwick and wife Jennie of Alna; daughters, Debbie Hickey and husband Dennis of Gardiner and Marie Chadwick of Wiscasset; brother, Gerald Diamond of South Carolina; sisters, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Jenks of West Simsbury, Conn., Annette Riccio and Patricia Chadwick and husband Roger, all of Tolland, Conn.; grandchildren, Jeremy Grover, Derek Grover and wife Julie, William Hickey, Rachel Hickey, Allison Montgomery and husband Benjamin Lynch, Tracey Montgomery, Chelsea Chadwick, Steven Chadwick, Ryan Chadwick, Tyler Chadwick, Thomas Chadwick and Benjamin Chadwick; and great-grandchildren, Trent, Logan, Zachary and Gavin Grover, Kaelyn Hickey, Connor and Aubryanna Chadwick and Kassidy Burton.
Graveside service 4 p.m., Fri., July 22 at South Parish (Ridge) Cemetery, Martinsville.
