Carmen J. “Gootch” Salluce, 82, of West Boylston, Mass., passed away on Dec. 9 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He passed at home with his family, in the same home he was born in.
He was born in West Boylston, Mass. to Joseph and Minnie (Geneva) Salluce. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1950. He worked at Hinman Company Construction in Waldoboro after which he moved back to West Boylston and worked at ITT Supernant in Clinton for many years, Plantation Steel, and then Norton Company, retiring in 1991. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener. He especially enjoyed the younger children of the family to whom he was a relentless tease. He was a great help to his grandsons Justin and Nathan who were with him every afternoon after his retirement. Carmen had a great sense of humor, and was a homebody at heart, and enjoyed time with his family.
He is predeceased by grandson, Michael Salluce.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Irma E. (Alley) Salluce; sons, Richard S. Salluce and wife Delia of West Boylston, Mass., Michael J. Salluce of Holde, Mass.; daughter, Paula M. Howard and husband Milo of West Boylston, Mass.; granddaughter, Melissa A. Block and husband Steven of Foxboro, Mass.; grandsons, Benjamin Salluce and Flavia of Shrewsbury, Mass., Matthew Salluce of Worcester, Mass., Justin and Nathan Howard of West Boylston, Mass. and Joshua Salluce of West Boylston, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ashton Block of Foxboro, Mass. and Lana Salluce of Shrewsbury, Mass.; brother, Victor Salluce of Sterling, Mass.; sisters, Lucy Salluce and Rose Oliver, both of West Boylston, Mass. and Mary Johnson of Sterling; and many nieces and nephews.
Carmen’s visiting hour and funeral service Dec. 17 at Fay Brothers Funeral Home, West Boylston, Mass. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
