Carol M. West, 77, of Bremen, died peacefully on April 11 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. from complications after recent cancer surgery.
Carol was born in Englewood, N.J. to Hylie and Florence McLeod on May 29, 1932. She married David West of Tenafly, N.J. on May 23, 1959. She summered in Bremen starting in 1938 and became a full time resident of Bremen in 2003.
Carol grew up in Tenafly and graduated from Oak Grove School in Vassalboro and later from Endicott College. She raised three boys in Harrington Park, N.J. where she was the volunteer coordinator of Meals on Wheels for several towns in the area, board member of the Board of Health, a teacher’s assistant as well as participating in other volunteer activities. She also had a 10 year career in real estate in Harrington Park. Carol moved to Marco Island, Fla. in 1988 and volunteered at Marco Healthcare where she served as coordinator of volunteers as well as other duties.
Carol has been involved with the Ataxia Group of Maine for many years and has been a volunteer of the Pemaquid Watershed Association. She is also a member of the Patriotic Club of Bremen.
Carol was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, David E. McLeod of Bremen and Ian C. McLeod of Closter, N.J. and Bremen.
She is survived by her husband, David of Bremen; sons, Hylie of Jefferson, Douglas of Monmouth, and Bradford of Freeport; as well as sister, Gail McLeod Clark of Bremen.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Wed., April 21 at the Bremen Union Church.
