Carolyn B. Foster, 89, passed away peacefully on May 13 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. She was born on Aug. 29, 1924 to Ariel and Susie Buck Brown in Dover Foxcroft.
Carolyn worked as an RN for many years. She started her nursing career by working as an Army Cadet Nurse at Camp Edwards in WWII. She continued her nursing career at Togus VA Center in Augusta for several years where she met her husband Mel. Nursing was part of her life as they moved a number of times, ending up in New Harbor where they enjoyed retirement.
Carolyn enjoyed crafts, cooking and she hosted a Bridge group for many years. She loved volunteering, and spent time working with Camp Sunshine in Casco, Lincoln County Life Line and Miles Memorial Home Health. She was also a member of Willing Workers. She made a difference in her community and served with various organizations, including the New England Baptist Hospital Alumni Association, NARFE, and the Miles Memorial Hospital League.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Levi Foster; and sisters, Evelyn Goldberg, Eleanor Brennan, and Ima Brown.
She is survived by brother, Armour Brown; son, Timothy M. Foster of Warren, Mich.; daughters, Betsy Foster of Portland, Carolyn Sue Foster of Carmel, N.Y., and Janice Damick of Rochester, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Family members are invited to a graveside service at 2 p.m., Mon., June 16 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held at a later date, to be determined by the family.
