Carolyn E. Prentice, 78, of Round Pond, passed away on the evening of Oct. 13 at MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The daughter of Erndale and Eleanor (Hanna) Cushing, she was born in Round Pond, Aug. 31, 1928.
Carolyn attended Bristol schools, including Bristol High School where she was valedictorian of the class of 1946.
On Dec. 13, 1946, she married Stephen W. Prentice. They lived in Bristol Mills while raising their family; and she helped keep the family business running smoothly.
Carolyn lived in Round Pond for the past thirty years. She loved swimming, dancing, skiing and writing short stories. She was an avid reader.
She was a longtime member of Round Pond United Methodist Church, an associate member of Bristol Congregational Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She and her husband loved to travel to the Bahamas and other places. In later years, she loved to dine at Reunion Station in Damariscotta.
Carolyn leaves her husband of 59 years, of Round Pond; children, Dale Prentice and wife Lyn, Gordon Prentice and wife Carol Ann, and Stephanie Clifford and husband Gary, all of Bristol; brother, Lee Cushing and wife LaVerne of Zephyrhills, Fla.; grandchildren, Hope McFarland and Josh Clifford; and great-granddaughter, Shealyn Clifford.
Friends are invited to be with the family 5-7 p.m., Wed., Oct. 18 at Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta.
Service to honor Carolyn 11 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 19 at the funeral home with Rick Newell officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Chamberlain Cemetery, Round Pond.
Following the service, all are welcome to join the family at the home of Gordon and Carol Ann Prentice.
