Carolyn S. Weeks, 87, passed away on July 25 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Damariscotta, a daughter of the late Gerald and Allura Genthner Stetson.
A graduate of Lincoln Academy, class of 1938, she was the captain of the girls basketball team that went on to be the state basketball champions.
Kay worked at Nash Telephone Company as an operator. On Dec. 7, 1941, when it was announced that Pearl Harbor had been bombed, Kay was working alone and was responsible for spreading the word.
She married Paul Weeks and together they raised their children in Damariscotta. She worked for Dr. Nevins and Dr. Joe Griffin as a dental assistant and later for Jim Gallagher as a legal secretary.
Kay was a member of the Damariscotta Baptist Church and an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Celtics and Red Sox. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren swim and fish at Biscay Pond. She will be fondly remembered as “GG” to her great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Weeks, in 1977.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula W. Abbotoni and husband Louis of Damariscotta; son, Timothy M. Weeks and wife Paulette of Damariscotta; sisters, Geraldine Birch of No. Conway, N.H., and Eleanor Catir of Portland; grandchildren, Scott Abbotoni and wife Michelle of Nobleboro, Daryl Abbotoni and wife Heidi of Houlton, Todd Abbotoni and wife Krista of Windham, and Kimberly Weeks of Alna; great-grandchildren, Anna and Tyler Abbotoni and mother Leslie of Damariscotta, Zachary, Sarah and Alyssa Abbotoni of Houlton, Connor and Ryan Abbotoni of Windham, Jontylar and Marshall Weeks of Alna, and Brian Chadwick of Nobleboro.
Graveside service 3 p.m., Mon., July 30 at Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta with Pastor Richard Newall officiating.
