Cassandra (Sandy) L. Smith, 65, of South Gardiner, passed away Nov. 11. She died peacefully in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1943 in McAlpin, Fla. She married her sweetheart Richard R.B. Smith of Augusta and was a devoted wife and mother of four.
She traveled the world extensively during her husband’s military career. After his naval retirement she enjoyed working at local Hall Dale school. She was well liked by everyone she met. Her most recent adventures included trips to Niagara Falls and tornado torn Birmingham, Ala.
She was predeceased by her parents, Corrine and Frank Prevatt; her husband, Richard; a daughter, Twyla; and a son, David.
A few of her guilty pleasures included watching “Judge Judy”, eating deep fried chicken gizzards, and southern style lima beans with corn bread.
She is survived by her son, Roger Smith and wife Bonnie of Gardiner; daughter, Tabatha Smith of Providence, R.I.; sister, Frankie Benton and husband Cecil; three brothers, Buddie, Timmy and Ronnie Prevatt as well as Ronnie’s wife Susie, all of Sanford, Fla.; six grandchildren, Carly, Monica, Chandler, Mikey, Margaret and Holden, and family and friends in Lincoln County.
Funeral services 12 p.m., Fri., Nov. 14 in the chapel at the Old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. There will be a reception immediately following the service at Sandra’s home at 32 Sherburne Ave., Gardiner.
Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
