Catherine W. Guyette, 96, passed away on Aug. 13 at Windward Gardens in Camden, where she had resided since 1997.
Born in Montreal, Canada in 1910, the daughter of Herbert and Martha Hummell Wakefield, she was educated in Canada, and Haverhill, Mass., moving there in 1921.
In 1932, she married Leonard Guyette and they moved to Maine in 1934. Together they raised three daughters in East Union.
She was a cook at Knox Hospital for many years, retiring in 1976. She loved to travel and enjoyed many bus tours with friends and family. She loved to play cards.
She was a 60-year member of the Pioneer Grange and belonged to the Senior Citizens in Union, the Eastern Star and attended the Peoples Methodist Church in Union.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard in 1974; son-in-law, Rosslyn Castner in 2000; and daughter, Frances Lufkin in 2003.
Survivors include her two daughters, Evelyn Castner of Waldoboro, and Catherine Poirer and husband Michael of Talking Rock, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Bonnie Gaudett and husband Rodney of Kingston, N.H., Gary Castner and wife Heidi of Waldoboro, Debbie Oulette of Bedford, N.H., Sandi Curtis and husband Glen of Warren, James Lufkin and wife Denise of Hampstead, N.H., Susan Moody and husband Peter of Waldoboro, John Castner and wife Dolly of Waldoboro, Nicole Benge and husband Bryan of Dallas, Ga., and Danielle Poirier of Mendon, Mass.; 15 great-grandchildren, Wendy Lash of Rockport, Stephanie Condon of Massachusetts, Peter Moody, Jr. of Waldoboro, Brent and Jeremy Curtis, both of Waldoboro, Megan Castner of Waldoboro, Heather Castner of Waldoboro, Gary Castner of Washington, Lisa Constantino of New Hampshire, Mathew and Michael Gaudett, both of New Hampshire, Jesse Lufkin of Florida, Joshua Lufkin of Lake Tahoe, Nev. and Rachel Lufkin of Hampstead, N.H., and Taylor Benge of Georgia; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 16 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of Catherine’s life 10 a.m., Fri., Aug. 17 at Hall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Dorr officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Union Cemetery in East Union.
