Cathryn (Katie) Willett, 72, of Bath, passed away suddenly May 8 in Bath. She was born in Damariscotta on Sept. 3, 1938, a daughter of Richard and Evelyn Wheeler. Katie attended local schools.
In October 1957 she married Louis Young and moved to Boothbay Harbor where they lived for 18 years and raised four children. On March 28, 1978 Katie married Leonard Willett in Venice, Fla. where they lived for several years before moving to Nazareth, Penn. The Willetts moved back to Maine in 1983, settling in Bath in 1986.
Katie was long-time employee of Conley’s Garden Center in Boothbay Harbor and had a lifelong affiliation as an employee, volunteer, member, and supporter of the YMCA. She volunteered for several organizations including the Bath Soup Kitchen and Maine Democratic Party. Mrs. Willett was involved with and supported many causes, both environmental and social.
Katie was predeceased by her sons, Mark D. Young and Andrew L. Young; sister, Susan; and parents.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard A. Willett of Bath; daughters, Diane Hicks and husband Charles of Bath, Sara Young Mendez Emerson Trafton Poe Trafton of Portland and Samantha Readinger and husband Mark of Cornwall, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Wheeler and wife Paula, Blanche Davison, Hazel Loheed and Adele and husband Rob Roberts.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Sat., May 21 at the Newcastle UCC Congregational Church, River Rd., Newcastle. Internment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath at a later date.
