Cecil Bennett “Ben” Heaberlin Jr., 80, of Boothbay Harbor, died Nov. 1 at St. Andrews Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. He was born July 6, 1928 in Wurtland, Ky., a son of Cecil Bennett Heaberlin Sr. and Grace Burgess Heaberlin. He grew up in Kentucky.
In 1947 he served as military police in the U.S. Army in Trieste, Italy. He worked as a conductor on railroads in Kentucky. He began work as a chef and cooked for 45 years. He cooked at several restaurants in the Boothbay Region, including Spruce Point Inn, Fisherman’s Wharf, Upstairs Downstairs, Jordan’s, and the Thistle Inn. He last ran his own restaurant, Heaberlin’s, until he retired.
He was a member of the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Club. He loved to go hunting and fishing with his sons, Rick and Martin.
He was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Heaberlin; and sisters, Janice Watson and Betty Densmore.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irma Brewer Heaberlin of Boothbay Harbor; sons, Rick Heaberlin and wife Carol of Newcastle and Martin Heaberlin and wife Liddy of Bethel; daughter, Julie Simmons and husband Bradley of East Boothbay; two sons from previous marriage, Larry Heaberlin of Florida and Danny Heaberlin of Florida; brothers, Donny Heaberlin of Colorado, Jim Heaberlin of Florida, and Curt Heaberlin of Florida; sisters, Joyce Tyson of Texas, Vonda Ivester of Florida and Jeannie Adkins of Florida; grandchildren, Brian Heaberlin and wife Melissa of North Carolina, Nicholas Heaberlin of Boston, Mass., Melinda Heaberlin of Newcastle, Jessica, Chelsea and Jeremy Simmons, all of East Boothbay and Benjamin and Mallory Heaberlin, both of Edgecomb.
Private family graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
