Cecil H. Reed Jr., 80, of Wiscasset, died Feb. 6 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a courageous battle with cancer with his wife by his side.
He was born in Damariscotta on Sept. 19, 1931, a son of Cecil H. Sr. and Lillian (Haley) Reed.
He graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1949 and entered the U.S. Navy. He very proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Missouri for four years, serving two tours during the Korean Conflict. On March 9, 1954 he married Joan Johnson. He was employed over the years for Yankee Wholesale, Sylvania Electric, maintenance superintendent for Wiscasset schools and the Wiscasset Water Company.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post 54 in Wiscasset.
He was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and especially being at Webb Lake in Weld. He was a direct descendant of Colonel Reed of Boothbay Harbor.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan B. Reed of Wiscasset; daughter, Kathleen Bryant and husband Norman; sons, Chris Reed and wife Jackie, Kevin Reed and wife Melinda, and Kent Reed and wife Marci, all of Wiscasset; brother, Larry H. Reed of Walpole; 10 much loved grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter due to arrive this week.
A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
