Cedric Robert Achorn, 82, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully at Pen Bay Medical Center on Jan. 19. He was born on Sept. 7, 1931 in Waldoboro to Alva Achorn and Edna Orff.
Cedric graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1948, and from there joined the U.S. Air Force prior to the Korean War. He served in Vienna, Austria as a Staff Sargeant. He married the love of his life, Jeanette, in 1952, and they were happily married for 61 years.
After his military service, Cedric worked at several places, including Calderwood Bread Business and Sylvania. He also spent time working at his father’s store in Waldoboro, where the old Sproul Block building is now, and finally as a Prudential Insurance agent.
After Cedric retired in 1985, he spent some time in Northern Maine. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed gambling at casinos. He looked forward to Air Force reunions, served as president of the Waldoboro Lions Club and was a member of the Masons. He was legally blind but that didn’t stop his courageous spirit.
Cedric was known as “Gramps” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved spending time with them.
Cedric was predeceased by brothers, Everett and Richard, and sister, Maxine Little.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanette of Waldoboro; daughter, Debra Achorn King and husband Christopher King of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; son, Alva Achorn of Boothbay; grandchildren, Adam King and wife Amanda of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Justin and Ruth King of Indian Trail, N.C., Jacob Achorn of Atlanta, Ga., Kate Dunstan and husband Keith of Bristol, and Megan Achorn of Bremen; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m., Wed., Jan. 22 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Orff-Achorn Cemetery in Waldoboro.
