Celia M. Carlton, 97 of Arrowsic, died peacefully March 29 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
She was born in Friendship on June 28, 1916, a daughter of Frank M. and Villa B. Eugley Morse. She grew up in Friendship and moved to Bath in 1930 and attended local schools and Morse High School.
On July 9, 1934 she married Howard H. Carlton and they made their home in Arrowsic.
Celia worked at Stinson Canning Co. for a number of years, and also served as the Arrowsic Town Clerk for several years.
She was an accomplished artist and sold her paintings during the summer. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and trips to Foxwoods, but her greatest passion was her family and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also proud of the fact that she voluntarily gave up her driver’s license at age 90 even though she didn’t need to.
Celia was a member of the Arrowsic Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
She is predeceased by her husband who died Dec. 8, 1998; son, Vernon Carlton; grandson, Howard Tardiff; three brothers; and five sisters.
Surviving are her son, Richard Carlton of Woolwich; daughter, June Tardiff of Arrowsic; seven grandchildren; many great- and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 1-3 p.m., Fri., April 4 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Fri., April 5.
