Charles A. Barnes, 85, of Wiscasset, died July 17 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born in Wiscasset on Feb. 4, 1928, son of Charles S. and Cora (Erskine) Barnes.
He graduated from Wiscasset Academy and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps where he earned the rank of Sergeant. On June 24, 1950 he married Willie “Billie” Ingram. He owned and operated a sawmill in Wiscasset with his grandfather buying and cutting wood lots. He was employed at Bath Iron Works as a rigger, retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed pulling horses, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was a member of the American Legion in Wiscasset and the Masons Lodge #3 in Wiscasset.
He was predeceased by his wife, Willie Barnes on June 5, 2007; and brothers, Bob Barnes, Carl Barnes, and Richard Barnes.
He is survived by brothers, Roy Barnes and wife Aleene of Wiscasset, David Barnes and wife Gloria of Phippsburg, Bill Barnes of Wiscasset, and Kingsley Barnes of Pittston; sisters, Carlene Wright of Woolwich, and Sandra Winters and husband Wesley of Belgrade; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held July 20 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A funeral service was held July 21 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Old Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.
