Charles A. Wellman, 96, a lifetime resident of Waldoboro, died Dec. 9 at the Maine General Hospital in Augusta, after a long period of failing health.
Mr. Wellman was born in Bremen, April 17, 1912, the son of Gilbert Henry and Annie Elizabeth Dorsett Wellman, and attended local schools.
He was an employee of the Medomak Canning Company in Union, and enjoyed gardening and mowing his lawn. He grew a vegetable garden every year until his failing health prevented him from getting out to plant.
He loved his cats.
He was predeceased by his brother, James Wellman and sister, Emily Collamore.
Survivors include four nephews, Gilbert Collamore of Bremen, Henry Wellman of Washington, Gary Wellman of Waldoboro, and David Wellman of Damariscotta; great-nephew, Jason Wellman of Fort Carson, Col.; and great-niece, Crystal Wellman of Wiscasset.
Visiting hours 12-1 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 11, followed by a celebration of his life at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
