Charles “Chuck” Olney, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Edgecomb, passed away on March 19.
He was born on Oct. 27, 1931 in Fall River, Mass. and grew up in nearby Rehoboth, Mass. He was also a long-term resident of Edgecomb, having lived in NYC and Cohasset, Mass. before that.
He attended UMass in Amherst, earning a BA in Economics. He went on to earn his law degree from Suffolk University Law School and then earned his Masters of Law Taxation from the Boston University School of Law. He served his country honorably in Japan as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Before moving to Florida, in 2014 he lived in Edgecomb for 22 years with his family. He was an avid gardener, loved sailing his boat, the CRISMAR, and was active in the Edgecomb Congregational Church and the local town government. After retiring as an estate planner when he moved to Maine, Chuck began a new career working in special education at the Wiscasset Middle School.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Madeline (Barone) Olney; son, Christopher and daughter-in-law Emily of Arlington, Va.; and daughter, Margaret of Idaho Springs, Col.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:15 a.m., Sat., June 16 at the Edgecomb Community Church, Cross Point Rd., Edgecomb with light refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edgecomb Community Church.
