Charles J. Coffin, Sr., 81, of Key West, Fla. and Norridgewock, formerly of Bremen, passed away at his home in Norridgewock on March 20, surrounded by his family.
The son of Charles Augustus and Laura (Martin) Coffin, he was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Aug. 6, 1925.
At the age of 17 he entered the U.S. Navy, serving honorably in both WWII and the Korean War. He worked with pride as a carpenter throughout his life. For many years he was a Registered Maine Guide. From 1974 until his passing, he and his wife made Key West, Fla. their home for most of each year, spending the balance in Norridgewock.
Charles was predeceased by a son, Charles J. Coffin, Jr., on Feb. 8, 1980.
Charles leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Theresa (Schmidt) Coffin of Key West, Fla. and Norridgewock; children, Theresa Bonneau of Connecticut, Cheryl Barden and husband Albert of Norridgewock, and Scott F. Coffin and wife Patricia of Nobleboro; grandchildren, Ryan, Ian and Gary Coffin, Scott and Anna Barden, Wade Coffin, Rachel Brown, and Robert Bonneau; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held March 23 at the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta, where he will be laid to rest with his son.
