Charles Lewellyn Hinckley, 75, of Alna, died unexpectedly Dec. 26 in Lewiston with his beloved wife, Sally, at his side.
Mr. Hinckley was born April 29, 1932, son of Maurice and Millicent Hinckley of Georgetown. He was a lifelong resident of the Bath area before moving to Alna to enjoy country life, making his home with stepdaughter, Susan Johns.
He was a wonderful man with many friends. He was an avid bowler for many years. An expert card player, he and his wife won the New England Doubles in cribbage. He also won a large poker tournament but he most enjoyed horse racing. He loved animals, especially their horse and cat but included all God’s creatures. He was a compassionate man of great integrity.
A huge country music fan, he once met Hank Williams.
He worked as a clam digger, also at BIW, Arrowhart, and Advance Auto. As a young man he joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a life member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sallyann, they were inseparable; daughter, Cathy Kelley of Woolwich and husband Jody; step-daughters, Susan Johns of Alna and Joanne Greenlaw and husband George of Woolwich; brother, Maurice Hinckley and companion Vera McCollett of Brunswick; sister, Adeline Perow of Bath; grandchildren, Rebecca Kelley of Bath, Joseph Kelley of Jefferson, and Christopher Kelley of Georgetown; and great-grandchildren, Ben Carlton, Hanna Carlton, Addison Smart of Bath and Caleb Kelley of Jefferson.
Visiting hours Dec. 30 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath.
Funeral 11 a.m., Mon., Dec. 31 at the funeral home.
