Charles Michael Begley, Sr., 79, of Waldoboro, passed away Feb. 3 in Attleboro, Mass.
Chuck was born on Feb. 7, 1927, a son of John and Isabel Begley of Lawrence, Mass. While attending Bowdoin College, he served in the Army from 1945 to 46. Upon graduation from college in 1949, he moved to Waldoboro, where he resided for the last 58 years.
He taught at Waldoboro High School and Medomak Valley High School from 1949-1987. He was involved in many community activities and organizations including the Lions Club and the Republican Party. He served the wider community as Treasurer of Lincoln County from 1982 to 1992, and Maine State Senator from 1992 to 1996.
Chuck was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Begley of New Hampshire.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanne Begley of Waldoboro; daughter, Mary Baard and husband Ron of Brunswick; sons, Charlie Begley and wife Regina of Mansfield, Mass., Paul Begley and wife Stephanie of Sidney, Mark Begley and wife Laura of Windham; brother, John Begley and wife Barbara of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Lauren and Karin Baard of Brunswick, Katherine, Ryan, and Connor Begley of Mansfield, Mass., Lindsay and Paige Begley of Sidney, and Nicole and Michele Begley of Windham.
Service to honor and celebrate his life 11 a.m., Sat., Feb. 10 at the Waldoboro United Methodist Church, Friendship St., Waldoboro, led by the Rev. Joseph Beardsley.
Reception will follow in the church vestry.
