Charlie Bechler, 75, of Waldoboro, passed away May 7 from complications following a stroke earlier this year. Born in Long Island, N.Y., he started playing piano seriously at 15 and later studied at the Berklee College of Music.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Douglas of Newburyport, Mass., and Christopher and wife Diane Downey and their children Courtney and Haley of Eugene, Ore.; and sisters, Susie Sullivan of Quincy, Mass. and Annette Murray of Abington, Mass., both sisters have three children.
Memorial service held 2 p.m., Sat., May 12 at Broad Bay Congregational Church, Main St., Waldoboro; the Rev. Nancy Duncan officiated. A reception followed with live jazz at the Waldo Theatre Annex on Glidden Street.
