Chester “Gene” E. Morgan, 70, of Orr’s Island, passed away the evening of May 19. Born in Brunswick on March 16, 1944, he was the son of Chester and Deborah (Johnson) Morgan.
Gene was a man with great strength and determination and those qualities got him through many years of illness. His family was always his first priority and in turn he was a good provider.
In 1965, he started his own business known as “Gene’s Artesian Well and Pump Cleaning Service” which he operated until 1988. Gene could remember just about every pumping system he installed and years later was still able to recount the depths of most of those wells.
In 1988, he became a partner in M & M Excavation in Jefferson. Gene was happiest whenever he had any one of his “helpers” (children) working with him.
Gene loved to fish and hunt and was active in the Maine Sportsman Club for many years. He always had a good story to tell about his adventures and was willing to “head north” at a moment’s notice. In later years, he found enjoyment carving duck decoys.
Throughout his life, Gene was a compassionate man and was always willing to lend an ear or lend a hand to anyone in need.
Never one to miss a meal, he loved going out to eat with his buddy, Fred Toothaker, and going to the occasional hymn sings in Harpswell and Sebasco.
He is survived by brother, George Morgan of Orr’s Island; sister, Linda Furbish of Harpswell; daughters, Tammy Morgan of New Sharon, and Tara Jones and partner Mark Doe of Newcastle; sons, Scott Morgan and wife Michelle of Orr’s Island, Joel Morgan and wife Megan of Washington, and Joshua Morgan and partner Tracy Joslyn-Tapley, also of Washington; and grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Dakota, Evan, Emma, Cheyanne, Connor, and Willow.
