Christian S. Bauer, 94, of Westport Island, passed away on Nov. 22.
He was born on June 22, 1913, in Philadelphia, Penn. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and pursued graduate studies at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during WWII as a combat cameraman. He then went to the Marshall Islands to photograph atomic bomb testing. He served in the U.S. Air Force for a total of 23 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1965. After his retirement from the Air Force, he served as government liaison for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y.
He enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. He was a storyteller and master photographer who enjoyed sharing his photographic talent through slide shows of his extensive travels in Europe, Central America and the Middle East.
He was a member of the Sojourners, the Leica Historical Society of America, and the Maine Maritime Museum. He also enjoyed weekly participation in a Tuesday men’s luncheon group in Wiscasset.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Bauer; son, Christian S. Bauer, Jr.; daughter, Sue Beverage and husband; stepson, Tim Brown; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no local service. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
