Christine June Gudroe, 94, of Topsham, formerly of Old Bath Road, Wiscasset, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 with her family at her side.
She was born in Sheepscot on June 6, 1925, a daughter of Lester and Harriet (Dodge) Vinal. She graduated from Lincoln Academy and she married Raymond C. Gudroe.
She was a bus driver for Pine Tree Academy in Freeport for many years and a little-unknown secret is that she was employed at Red’s Eats in Wiscasset.
She enjoyed gardening, the Japanese Root Knot (Bamboo) that menaced her garden never got the best of her! She loved spending time at camp on Damariscotta Lake picnicking with family. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
For many years June served the Bath-Woolwich community through her church by working the food pantry as well as packing and delivering Thanksgiving dinner baskets to those in need. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Bath Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bath.
She was always ready to explore something new or take a trip with anyone who asked. She had a heart of gold and was willing to share whatever she had with anyone who needed it. Anyone who came in contact with June walked away thinking she was the sweetest person they ever met.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond C. Gudroe in March of 1983; daughter, Linda Hodgkins in May 2009; two brothers, Lester Vinal and William Vinal; three sisters, Romana Vinal, Hilda Tyler in October 2018, and Evelyn Showstead in May 2019; and grandson, Jon-Michael Allen Rice in August 2002.
She is survived by one son, Michael Gudroe and his wife Christine of Minneola, Fla.; three daughters, Bonnie M. (Gudroe) Thibeault and her husband Irenee Jr. of Topsham, Chris (Gudroe) Rice and her husband Raymond Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Donna (Gudroe) McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Livingston, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Willa Vinal of Boothbay; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at the Bath Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 889 High St., Bath with burial services following at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.
