Christopher Brittain Russell, 75, of Damariscotta, died at his home on Dec. 24, 2007.
He was born May 7, 1932 in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Sydney and Ysobel Arnold Russell. He moved to Maine as a small boy.
Chris attended Castner Grammar School, and graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1950, Coburn Classical Institute, Waterville, 1951 and the University of Maine, class of 1960.
In his high school and college years Chris was known for his athletic abilities, especially in baseball and basketball and later, as a golfer. He played at Wawenock Country Club for over 50 years.
He was a student of U.S. history and taught at Lincoln Academy for 12 years. He enjoyed reading and learning up to the end, loved life and never lost that wonderful sense of humor.
Chris was a proud Republican who loved his country. He considered himself a lucky man to live in the beautiful State of Maine. He enjoyed taking his boat on the Damariscotta River, and trips to Pemaquid, South Bristol and Christmas Cove were heaven on earth to him.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marsha Lee and brother, Peter Arnold Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; stepdaughter, Lisa, husband Michael Martin of Nobleboro and their daughters, “Poppy’s girls”: Ashley and Kayla Martin; first cousins, Boblyn White of Florida and Ricky Ricksen of California; and several nieces and nephews.
Chris will join his father and brother in the waters near McFarlands Cove where he spent many happy times as a boy.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Direct Cremation of Maine.
