Claire E. MacGillivary Reynolds, 78, of Georgetown, died on July 8 at her home.
Claire was born on July 21, 1932, one of 11 children to the late Percy and Alice (Pinkham) MacGillivary. After grade school she graduated from Morse High School in 1950.
One of the highlights of her early married life to Eugene Reynolds, of Georgetown, was being the recipient of the Mother of the Year Award from the Bath Daily Times in 1966.
Throughout Claire’s life she was a caregiver. She exemplified a loving and giving spirit through her kind acts.
She was a lifelong member of the Five Islands Baptist Church, where she held many positions. Her community commitments included one of the founders of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Georgetown Fire Department, Ambulance Service, member of the Georgetown Cemetery Committee, PTA member, ballot clerk for many years, and volunteer librarian at the Richard’s Library.
She was an avid sports fan, watching professional sports as well as her children and grandchildren in various sporting events.
Claire truly enjoyed bowling, beginning at the Hyde Windlass Coed Bowling Leagues at the Arcade Bowling Alley in Bath and continuing in the Ten Pin Leagues at the Brunswick alleys. She was a captain of a team in the Great Island Women’s Bowling League for nearly 30 years.
In her very first Senior Olympics competition, Claire won the gold medal and qualified for the Nationals by winning the women’s long jump.
She enjoyed traveling in the United States as well as Europe, but the most special place in the world to Claire, was just five minutes from her home, “The Lot” on Robinhood Cove.
Claire was predeceased by her sister, Ida Olson; and brothers, John, Bruce, Keith and Wayne MacGillivary.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Eugene; daughters, Deb Smith and husband Clint of Bowdoinham, Darla Russell and husband Dennis of Georgetown, Darcy Emerson and husband John of Nobleboro and Heidi Grover and husband Daniel of Wiscasset; sons, Eric Reynolds and wife Denise of Bath, David Reynolds, Todd Reynolds and Wayne Benjamin, all of Georgetown; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Daniel MacGillivary and wife Linda and Andrew MacGillivary and wife Karen, all of Five Islands; sisters, Marilyn Tardif, wife of the late Lucien Tardif of Bath, Dorothy McDorr and husband Thomas of Crestview, Fla. and Karen Fake and husband Barry of Five Islands; sister-in-law, Doris McArthur of Augusta; and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life service at the Five Island Baptist Church, committal service at Mountainside Cemetery and gathering at Georgetown Community Center held July 16.
