Clarice Dean L. Sturtevant, 100, of Farmington, died Oct. 27 at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
She was born in Madrid on Aug. 8, 1910, the daughter of Archie Lufkin and Winnie Douglas Lufkin. Clarice came to Farmington to live with the remarkable Withee/Roberts family when she was three years old.
She was proud to be chosen as a student at the Model School. She graduated from Farmington High School and from Farmington Normal School. Clarice taught all grades at the Red School House until she married Frederick Sturtevant, her high school sweetheart, on June 30, 1931. He died May 15, 1989.
Clarice held offices and was active in the North Church Alliance, Monday Club, DAR, and the Mount Blue Garden Club. She spent many icy hours selling tickets at the Titomb Ski Slope and was a life member of the Long Cove Club in Chamberlain. Clarice taught Sunday school at the Old South Church and was a “candy striper” during WWII.
Clarice was predeceased by her husband, Frederick; sister, Ethel W. Pratt; and brother, Raymond Lufkin.
She is survived by daughters, Loraine S. Norton of Farmington, Harriet S. Laverdiere and husband Norman of Madison and Mary Jane Sturtevant of Pinellas Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Patricia L. Cyr of Scarboro, Melissa W. Norton of Mt. Vernon, Letitia L. Gilsinger of Colorado Springs, Col., Susan Myers of Waterville, Nicholas S. Norton of Denver, Col., Paul Douglas Laverdiere of Rockland and Andrew F. Laverdiere of Lynn, Mass.; seven great-grandchildren; and cousin, Dr. Loring W. Pratt of Fairfield.

Graveside service 10 a.m., Sat., Nov. 6 at the Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. At Clarice’s request there will be no funeral or visitation hours.
