Cleber “Bud” Alden Cooley Jr., 83, of Waldoboro, passed away Jan. 31 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 8, 1926, the son of Cleber A. Cooley Sr. and Myra Whittier Webb in Washington. He grew up in Washington and attended local schools.
In 1945 he entered into the U.S. Army and served his country until his discharge in 1946 leaving with the rank of Corporal.
After returning home from service he met and married Irene Pinkney Dec. 2, 1949. The couple made their home in Washington until moving to Waldoboro in their later years.
“Bud” was a self employed pulpwood contractor as well as the road commissioner in Washington. Along with doing this he also plowed snow for the state of Maine as well as being a Christmas tree dealer.
Some of his hobbies included lobster fishing, hunting and visiting friends and relatives. He was also very proud of raising his vegetable garden.
He was a 50 plus year member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #203 in Washington.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Irene Pinkney Cooley; daughter, Paula Cooley; sisters, Betty Orff and Dorothy Moore; and brother, Talbot Cooley.
Survivors include daughters, Jacquelyn Magno and husband Carlo of Waldoboro, and Joyce Cooley of Warren; son, Craig Cooley and wife Kimberly of Waldoboro; grandsons, Gavin McLain and wife Tracie of Washington, and Gabriel Cooley of Waldoboro; granddaughter, Marla Levesque and husband Matthew of Germany; great-grandsons, Taylor and Alden McLain of Washington, and Devin and Brodie Levesque of Germany; two sisters, special sister, June Stiman and husband David of Augusta, and Patricia Creamer and husband Earl of Washington; brother, Parker Cooley and wife Nancy of Westminster, Mass.; brother-in-law, Arnold Orff; beloved dog and constant companion, Susie; and as well as many nieces nephews and beloved friends.
Celebration of Bud’s of life 11 a.m., Thurs., Feb. 4 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, with a time of visitation at 10 a.m.
