Connie (Moran) Mara, 90, of Waterford, Conn., passed away peacefully on May 22.
Born in Clinton Mass. on Aug. 24, 1916, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants, John Moran and Brigitte Scanlon Moran. She grew up and was educated in Clinton, Mass. In her early years she was known for her fun loving nature and magnificent singing voice.
Connie met her beloved husband, Robert Mara, at a community dance in 1940. They married in the spring of 1944, after he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. She now rejoins him in heaven.
Robert and Connie were longtime residents of Waterford, Conn. Connie worked for 20 years as an executive assistant to several of the head librarians at Connecticut College. After retiring from Connecticut College, she managed the family Shaklee business, well into her 80’s. She was beloved by all who knew her.
Connie is predeceased by her brothers, Mark and John; and sisters, Mary, Irene, Rosalie and Margaret.
She is survived by her three children, Robert O’Mara of Noank, Conn., Jack Mara of Ipswich Mass. and daughter-in-law Chris Mara of Kennebunk, and daughter and son-in-law Jill and Edward Lamoureux.
“Nana,” as her grandchildren knew her, was a very proud and wonderful grandmother. She had seven grandchildren, Mara Lamoureux Edgar and husband Dave, Erin Mara O’Bryan and husband Kyle, Ryan Mara, Haven Lamoureux, Maggie O’Mara, Chris Moffett, and Brian O’Mara.
Her family was the central focus of her life. She will be remembered for her loving kindness, endless generosity, stoic nature, positive attitude, and genuine interest in the lives of her family and friends.
Connie had fond memories of her childhood and her seven siblings. She is survived by her youngest sister and friend, Maddie (Moran) Maysek of Pennsylvania. Her love extended to her many nieces and nephews and their children.
Bob and Connie shared a wonderful marriage of 58 years. They resided in Waterford, Conn. for nearly 50 years. They also spent over 20 summers on Damariscotta Lake at the “Connemara Cottage,” their summer home. There they enjoyed great family moments. They also spend many wonderful days at their daughter’s home in New Hampshire.
Wherever Nana went, she made dear and loving friends, and each one of them knows their place in Nana’s heart.
Private celebration of Connie’s long and blessed life will be held on Wed., May 30.
