Constance “Connie” Curley, 91, passed away on Nov. 4 at the Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta. Born and raised in Arlington, Mass., she was the daughter of Joseph and Eleanor MacAllister.
After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary for many years at Houghton-Mifflin Publishing House in Boston, Mass.
She was an enthusiastic member of a cycling club and would often ride from Boston to York.
In 1956 she married, and is the widow of, Joseph Francis Curley who died on Aug. 28, 1978, only one year after moving to Damariscotta Mills. She had said, “our marriage worked because we liked the same things, were in love with each other, and it was a life-long commitment.” Family meant everything to the both of them.
Connie was a long time resident of the Mills and was often seen walking or swimming in the lake with all of her friends. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, and loved teaching CCD for many years to her devoted students, many of whom became lifelong friends. She was very proud of her Irish ancestry, and loved telling a good Irish tale or joke.
Connie lived at Waldoboro Green for the last two years.
She is survived by her children, Anne Curley Dolinsky and son-in-law Gary of Kennebunkport, Joan Curley Loomis of Sarasota, Fla., and Joel Curley of Conway, N.H. and daughter-in-law, Sheila; loving grandchildren, Corinna Loomis, Jamaica Dolinsky, David Curley and Sarah Curley; great-granddaughters, Isabella and Bridget Curley; as well as nieces, Mary Eckert and Katie Delay.
Funeral mass 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
