Corlys L. Brewer, 78, of Wiscasset, died the morning of April 13 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta where she had been a resident for several months. She was born Sept. 12, 1927 in Biddeford, a daughter of the late Andrew S. and Bertha R. (Wyman) Lux. Mrs. Brewer attended Kennebunk schools and graduated from Potter Academy in Sebago class of 1946 and was a graduate of Gorham State Teachers College. In 1954 she married Bruce H. Brewer in Connecticut. For more than thirty-five years Mrs. Brewer educated children as a teacher in Rockville, Conn., East Boothbay and the Boothbay Region Elementary School. She was especially fond of Special Education and was one of the first trained special education teachers in the state. She spent many summers working as a short order cook at the Blue Jacket in Edgecomb and the Bold Navigator in Wiscasset. Mrs. Brewer was president of the Teachers Club in Rockville, Conn., a member of the Maine Teachers Association and a former member of Huntoon Hill Grange in Wiscasset. Mrs. Brewer was an excellent marksman and avid hunter. One of her most exciting adventures was being selected for the 1994 Moose Hunt and staying at Lobster Lake camps for the week-long hunt. She and her grandson Bob Fortier bagged a 700 pound cow moose on the Thursday of the hunt, a trip she said that she would never forget. In her earlier years she loved to travel, and for over two years she accompanied her husband all over the country when he was employed as an aviation troubleshooter for Hamilton Standard in Connecticut. She always loved to read, cook and going out to eat. She was deeply devoted to her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of more than 34 years who died in 1988; and two grandsons, Joshua Reed who died in 1979 and Jeffrey Fortier who died in 1993. Mrs. Brewer is survived by two daughters, Marge L. Kilkelly and husband Joseph Murray of Dresden and Carolyn Mank and husband Richard of Wiscasset; two sisters, Marjorie Sprague of Arundel and Julie Emerson and husband Steve of Arundel; brother, Andrew Lux and wife Patricia of Kennebunk; five grandchildren, Robert Fortier and wife Kelli of Pittston, Sarah Howard and husband Jeffrey of Pittston, Jessica York and husband Rob of North Carolina, Desiree Reed and fiancé Joshua Bailey of Wiscasset and Justin Reed of Wiscasset; two foster grandchildren, Nick and Amanda; six great grandchildren, Sam, Alex, Patience, Serenity, Gabrianna, and Jyllian; long time friend, Judy Reed of Wiscasset; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Brewer’s life will be announced at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.
