Danny J. Wilshire, 59, of Friendship, passed away unexpectedly on May 9 at the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. He was born on July 13, 1958 in Rockland to Richard T. Wilshire Sr. and Helen (Richards) Wilshire. Danny was an organ donor and continues to give the gift of life.
Danny was a lifelong resident of Friendship, attending local schools, and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1977. Danny started working at Corner Exxon in Waldoboro during high school, continuing on to work as a stern man and on the wharves in Friendship.
He liked ice fishing, fresh water fishing and raccoon hunting with family and friends. Danny could always be seen with a smile, was happy-go-lucky with a keen sense of humor. He always had a story to tell and could make you laugh. Danny enjoyed playing cribbage with his nephews while they were growing up. He loved going to the fairs and horse races with his Dad. Danny spent many days with his uncle Doug Richards with whom he had a very special bond. Danny will always be known for his favorite saying, “you know.”
Danny is predeceased by mother, Helen Richards Wilshire.
He is survived by father, Richard T. Wilshire Sr. of Friendship; brothers, Richard T. Wilshire Jr. and wife Terry of Warren, and Douglas C. Wilshire of Friendship; nephews, Richard Wilshire of Union, and Joshua Wilshire and wife Kayla of Waldoboro; great-nieces, Madison Wilshire of Union, and Lindsay Wilshire of Waldoboro; and great-nephew, Austin Wilshire of Waldoboro; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thurs., May 17 at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A graveside service for Danny will be held at 4 p.m., Sat., May 19 at the Village Cemetery in Friendship. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Hahn Community Center, Main St., Friendship.
