David Edward “Hank” Hancock Jr., of Danbury, Conn., passed away peacefully on Sept. 19 after a long illness at Hill House Assisted Living in Bath.
He was born on March 14, 1926 in Danbury, Conn., the son of the late D. Edward Hancock Sr. and Lina (Dittus) Hancock. Hank was married to his high school sweetheart Jane (Sandstrom) Hancock for 64 years. He was a graduate of Danbury High School (1944) and Quinnipiac University.
He was a purchasing agent for Republic Foil retiring after 38 years. A lifetime member of St. James Church he served on the Vestry and was a past president of its Couples Club. He was a past director of the National Purchasing Association.
Hank was an avid boater and fisherman and enjoyed tennis and golf. He most enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends at their summer home in Pemaquid.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Nancy Ochs and husband Robert; granddaughter, Vanessa Mertzel; grandson, RJ Ochs; great-grandson, Drew Mertzel; niece, Sandra Sanchez; and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Book of the Living Trust Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral service 11 a.m., Tues., Sept. 25 at St. James Church, Danbury, Conn. with a graveside service at Wooster Cemetery immediately following. There are no calling hours.
