David Guthrie Phillips, 44, of Owings Mills, Md., died unexpectedly on July 18 near Baltimore. He was born in Norwich, Conn. and received his M.S. in real estate development from Johns Hopkins University and his B. S. in business administration from The University of Vermont.
Mr. Phillips was co-founder and managing member of GT Property Group LLC, a real estate development company, which he launched six months ago. He had established a long and distinguished career in commercial real estate at Prime Retail, a leading national outlet developer, where he worked for 17 years, rising to the position of Executive Vice President for Leasing, International and New Business Development, and President for Prime Retail Europe. Mr. Phillips chaired the Outreach Committee for the Urban Land Institute’s Baltimore Region Executive Council, was a member of the Urban Land Institute and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Mr. Phillips served on the board of Friends of the Family, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that provides support to underprivileged families across Maryland. He initiated and served for many years as the chairman of the group’s annual golf tournament. He was a graduate of The Leadership, a program of The Greater Baltimore Committee that invites promising, young talent to train with top business and civic leaders.
He was a member of the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club.
David was a devoted husband, father and friend. An adventurous world traveler, accomplished cook and avid musician, he loved the arts and sports of all kinds, especially golf, sailing, and his beloved Baltimore Orioles. David will be remembered for his joie de vivre and his infectious enthusiasm.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Godine Phillips, a daughter, Katherine and a son Walker, all of Owings Mills; parents, Nicolas and Bonnie Phillips of Old Mystic, Conn.; grandmother, Verna MacLeod Payer of Groton, Conn.; sister, Johanna Phillips Clark of Eden Prairie, Minn.; brothers, Stephen Phillips of Damariscotta, and Paul Phillips of Ledyard, Conn.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Memorial service 10 a.m., Tues., July 25 at The Catholic Community of Saint Francis Xavier, Cuba Rd., Cockeysville, Md.
Additional service in Mystic, Conn. is planned for Fri., Aug. 25.
