David Russell, 67, of Whitefield, died Feb. 7 at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta after a mercifully short bout with cancer.
He was born on July 6, 1943 to Lester and Bessie (Wentworth) Russell. He graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1962 and later worked at Wiscasset Lumber, Bath Iron Works and Bath Lumber Company.
David was a quiet man with a great love of his family and friends, dropping anything to help them, even if it meant climbing up on a rooftop in the middle of a stormy night, or opening his house and inviting people to stay for a night or for a year.
He was a wonderful woodworker and particularly enjoyed creating handmade gifts for his loved ones. He also had a passion for antique autos, collecting toy replicas of his favorites and strolling through car shows at any opportunity.
David was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Jeanette (Russell) Stults of Leesburg, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria Jane (Delano) Russell; son, James Russell and wife Kim; step-grandchildren, Justin Ramsey and Erinn Calloway of Lisbon Falls; daughter, Lynnette Conroy and spouse Daniel of Whitefield; grandson, Quinn Conroy of Whitefield; brothers, Joseph Russell and wife Beverly of Augusta and Norman Russell and wife Ginney of Candia, N.H.; and nieces, nephews, in-laws, step-great-grandchildren, cousins and friends too numerous to count.
Family and friends may gather in memory of David 1 p.m., Sat., Feb. 12 at the Sheepscot Church on the Corner of Rt. 194 and the Townhouse Rd. in Whitefield with a memorial service to begin at 2 p.m.
