David W. Brown, 68, of Boothbay Harbor, died Sept. 28 at his home in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born June 5, 1938, in Pemaquid Harbor, the son of William J. and Dorothy M. Oldham Brown, and was a graduate of Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1957, where he was known as Mr. Football.
After high school, he attended S.M.V.T.I. in the mechanics program, and returned home to Journeyman Apprentice with Ronnie Calhoun. David worked at B.I.W. for nine years, and worked with his brother for a couple of years, then returned to B.I.W., from where he retired in 2001.
After his retirement, he lobstered, mooring his boat at the Tugboat Inn. He was a hard worker and among family and friends he was well known for his handyman and “fix it” skills.
David was a member of the Boothbay Fire Department in his younger years, and the Boothbay Harbor Lions Club. He loved his home and taking care of it.
David is predeceased by a grandson, Stephen Auvil, in 2003.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Patricia (Pat) Brown; daughters, Bonnie Stover and husband Mark of Boothbay, and Elizabeth Kelly and husband Dan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; stepchildren, Paul McGrath and wife MJ of Athol, Mass., Kevin McGrath of Boothbay Harbor, Margaret Auvil and husband Frank of Wiscasset, Theresa DeRepentigny and husband Dan of Boothbay Harbor, and Timothy McGrath and wife Jen of Biddeford; sister, Jane Spofford of Trevett; brother, Lemuel Brown of Alna; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
