Delwyn Dennison Grover, 76, of Smithfield, died July 11 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta.
He was born in York on Sept. 6, 1929, the son of Albert and Bernice (Dorr) Grover. Delwyn graduated from York High School with the Class of 1947, and entered the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed by Central Maine Power Co., Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he was a graduate of the apprentice program, Scott Paper Co., Taylor Construction Company, and retired from Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland. He also enjoyed working at Camp Somerset.
Delwyn lived in York for many years where he was a Past Master, and a 55-year member of St. Aspinquid Lodge 198 AF & AM and a member of the York VFW. He also served many years on the York Volunteer Fire Department.
He was an avid fisherman and especially loved fly-fishing. Delwyn loved the outdoors, and for many years enjoyed camping at Chain of Ponds.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his first wife and mother of his five daughters, Jeanne (Bombard) Grover.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Ica (Stevens) Grover of Smithfield; five daughters: Linda Pedersen, and Rebecca Donnell of North Berwick, and Brenda Adams, Sandra Kovacs, and Debora Berger, all of York; two step-daughters, Gail Claire of Smithfield, and Sandra Taylor of Fremont, Ohio; sister, Evelyn Hanson of York; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
Masonic graveside service 2 p.m., Wed., July 26 in the First Parish Cemetery in York.
