Dennis Gray died Jan. 16, succumbing to acute respiratory distress. He was born on Dec. 1, 1958 in Wilmington, Ohio.
He attended Boothbay Region High School, graduating in 1976. He enjoyed playing golf, basketball, and football. Dennis graduated from culinary arts school at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and working in the service industry in Maine and Florida.
At age 25 he left Maine and began his seismic exploration career as a survey rod man for Geophysical Systems Inc. He moved up from rod man to party manager for Digicon Inc. He left Digicon in 1990 and took over U.S. operations for Universal Seismic until 1998. After a brief stay at Premier Geophysical, he moved on as a partner in Southern 3D Exploration. After selling Southern 3D Exploration, Dennis became manager of Drilling Services Inc. from 2000 to 2003 for Mitcham Industries. After Drilling Services Inc. was sold, Dennis started Cypress Energy Services Inc., acquired World Wide Drilling, and then sold his company to OMNI Energy Services in 2007. Dennis worked with OMNI as an employee and then a consultant, continuing to own and operate Cypress Energy Services, where he finished his career.
Dennis enjoyed the fruits of success and lived life to the fullest. He loved his sports cars and fine automobiles. He continued to play golf and traveled to sporting events across the country. His passion for the fine things in life was a part of everything he did.
The love of his life was his dog, Houston, his faithful companion.
He is survived by his parents, Merlin and Faye Gray of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sister, Cathy Hodgdon and husband Timothy Hodgdon of East Boothbay; nephew, Kyle Hodgdon, currently living in Austin, Tex.; niece, Audrey Hodgdon who resides in Perth, Australia; uncle, Louis Burnham of Boothbay Harbor; aunt, Sheila Sears of Preston, Conn.; several cousins; and many dear friends.
Memorial service Jan. 19 in the chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Houston, Tex.
