Dennis H. Gordon, 69, of Wiscasset, went to heaven to join his wife and son on Nov. 5. He passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Dennis was born in Bath on May 4, 1949, a son of John and Elizabeth (Cornish) Gordon. He graduated from Morse High School, class of 1967, where he excelled in basketball and track. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and continued his education at the Commercial Trades Institute and the RETS Technical Center. He was employed at Bob’s Photo in Boothbay as an electronic technician before beginning his long career at Bath Iron Works where he retired after 29 years as a combat systems supervisor.
Dennis married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Mangiaficio on Jan. 27, 1973. They happily raised their two sons in Wiscasset.
Dennis loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and many outdoor pursuits. He set aside his passions to be a genuine family man. In the earlier years, he taught his children the things that cannot be learned in a classroom. Whether it was going ice fishing, out in the boat, or “deep” in the Northern Maine woods, he always took them along. He shared his passion for sports, teaching them his talents in basketball, and track and field and even volunteered as a youth coach. As a family, they made numerous camping trips, and visited with friends and family both near and far away.
During his retirement his favorite thing was spending time at his camp in Guilford with his family and friends. He loved renovating his camp, cooking for all, having bonfires and entertaining the Davis Pond residents with his infamous fireworks displays. During retirement, once again he set aside 10 years of his life to care for his ailing wife who was overtaken by dementia at a very young age. He put others’ health, safety, and best interests in front of his passions and made time for himself afterwards.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara Gordon; and son, Matthew Gordon.
He is survived by his significant other, Wilma Moon; son, Michael and wife Rita and their daughter Ellie, all of Wiscasset; favorite brother, John and partner Kerry of Woolwich; grandson, Camden Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.
