Dennis L. Fraughton, 63, of Jefferson passed away at his home on July 2. He was born May 9, 1947, the son of the late Mary Fraughton.
Dennis was born in Rockland and attended local schools before leaving early to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. After enlisting he did four tours of duty in Vietnam. After leaving the service and returning home, he began his career as a commercial scallop fisherman with his father-in-law Robert Powell.
He was the captain of scallop boats from Gloucester to New Bedford, Mass. He continued on this career path for over 35 years, finally ending his career on the fishing vessel Patches from Gloucester, Mass. In his younger years he enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved the water which is why he spent most of his life aboard ship.
