Mrs. Dolores “Ann” Yarmey, longtime resident of Newcastle, passed away Saturday evening, May 11 – exactly five years to the day following her beloved husband, Steven J. Yarmey Sr.’s calling. Born in Boothbay Harbor on Aug. 11, 1928, she was the only child of Edwin and Madeline Merry
She graduated from the Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass. in 1946 as a registered nurse. Thereafter, she worked for many years as a nursing supervisor at Berkshire Medical Center and Hillcrest hospitals in Pittsfield. She also was a board member on various nursing organizations.
Ann attended St. Charles and later St. Marks churches in Pittsfield where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Berkshire County Lyric Theater and the Town Players. She loved cats, gardening, playing the piano and especially family and friend gatherings.
Ann married Steven J. Yarmey Sr. in 1948.
She is survived by four children: Steven Jr. of Portland, Ore., Robert of Maine, Paul of Pittsfield, Mass., and Barbara Haskins of Michigan. She was predeceased by son Alan, twin to Robert. She also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
For many years, she raised her family and worked in Pittsfield but retired with her husband to her beloved multigenerational homestead “Merryfields” in Newcastle where she has resided for the past 23 years.
A requiem mass was conducted May 16 in Pittsfield. A private celebration of life gathering is to be held at “Merryfields.” Interested parties may contact son, Bob at byarmey@gmail.com.
